FAQ

1. Where to buy eco friendly shampoo bar online?

You can purchase eco-friendly shampoo bars through brand websites, local health stores like Natural Grocers or Sunflower Shoppe, and major retailers such as Amazon or Etsy.  For a more sustainability-focused option—featuring less plastic and small-batch production—look into dedicated eco-brands. ReviveEARTH is an excellent example if you are looking for bars designed specifically with zero-waste packaging in mind.

2. What are some affordable shampoo bars for a sensitive scalp?

Affordable options typically come from brands that prioritize simple, fragrance-light formulas. When shopping, look for key terms like unscented, for sensitive scalp, hypoallergenic, soap-free, and sulfate-free. If your scalp is reactive, it’s best to avoid heavy essential oils and strong fragrances—even those labeled as natural—to prevent irritation.

3. Where can I buy shampoo bar with vegan and cruelty-free certifications?

Many vegan and cruelty-free shampoo bars are available directly through brand websites or specialty beauty retailers. When shopping, look for clear labeling and official certifications such as the Leaping Bunny logo or PETA’s Beauty Without Bunnies program. If a brand isn’t transparent about its testing policies or ingredients, it’s best to move on—truly ethical brands are proud to share their certifications.

4. What are some top rated shampoo bars with natural ingredients?

Top-rated bars generally feature a combination of high-quality, plant-based components, such as:

  • Gentle Cleansers: Often utilize coconut-derived surfactants (like Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate) rather than harsh synthetic detergents.

  • Nourishing Butters and Oils: Ingredients like shea, cocoa, and argan oils are used to provide lasting softness and shine.

  • Botanical Extracts: Natural plant extracts and essential oils are added for scent and therapeutic benefits.

When choosing a bar, be sure to check reviews that mention your specific hair type—whether you have oily roots, dry ends, or curly texture—because a top-rated product's performance can vary significantly based on hair texture.

5.  How to shampoo bars work?

Shampoo bars are essentially concentrated, solid versions of liquid shampoo. To use one, simply wet both your hair and the bar, then choose your preferred method:

  • Lather in your hands: Rub the bar between your palms to create a rich foam.
  • Apply directly: Glide the bar lightly over your scalp and hair.

The surfactants in the bar lift away oil and dirt just like traditional shampoo—simply rinse as usual. Because these bars are highly concentrated and contain minimal water, a single bar often lasts significantly longer than a standard plastic bottle.

6. Which are the best shampoo bars for dry hair in the US?

For dry hair, look for bars specifically labeled as moisturizing, hydrating, or for dry/damaged hair. High-quality options for dry hair typically prioritize conditioning agents like shea butter, argan oil, and coconut oil, alongside gentle, non-stripping cleansers.

Pro-Tip: Dry hair thrives when you pair a mild shampoo bar with a dedicated conditioner bar. Applying a bar with humectants like glycerin or panthenol after washing will help lock in moisture and leave hair feeling silky.

7. What is the most environmentally friendly shampoo?

The most eco-friendly shampoo is typically the one that minimizes its total environmental footprint. To find the best option, look for products that meet these four criteria:

  • Zero-Waste Packaging: Choose bars or powders that use plastic-free, compostable, or infinitely recyclable materials like aluminum.

  • Waterless & Concentrated: Highly concentrated formulas (like shampoo bars) weigh less and take up less space, significantly reducing carbon emissions during shipping.

  • Ethical Sourcing: Prioritize brands that use responsibly sourced, biodegradable, and organic ingredients, ensuring no harmful chemicals enter our waterways.

  • True Transparency: Look for brands that are open about their supply chain and hold reputable certifications, such as B Corp, Leaping Bunny, or Climate Neutral.

While liquid refills in aluminum bottles are a great step, a shampoo bar in home-compostable packaging remains one of the most sustainable choices available today.

 8. Is there a 100% natural shampoo?

While many shampoos are primarily plant-derived, the label 100% natural can be misleading; even safe cleansers and preservatives require some level of processing. Instead of chasing a perfect label, focus on these three indicators of quality:

  • Minimalist Ingredient Lists: Shorter lists often mean fewer unnecessary fillers and a higher concentration of active, plant-based ingredients.

  • Transparent Fragrance & Allergen Info: Look for brands that clearly disclose their scent sources (such as essential oils) and highlight potential allergens.

  • Purposeful 'Free-From' Claims: Prioritize the claims that align with your needs, such as sulfate-free (no SLS/SLES) or paraben-free, rather than generic marketing buzzwords.

9. What brand is the most environmentally friendly?

There isn’t one single 'most' eco-friendly brand for everyone, as true sustainability depends on a combination of plastic-free packaging, ethical ingredient sourcing, and shipping distance. However, a great rule of thumb is to choose brands that are radically transparent about their manufacturing process.

When evaluating a brand, look for these 'Gold Standard' markers:

  • Zero-Waste Certifications: Look for the Leaping Bunny (cruelty-free), B Corp (social/environmental impact), or Plastic Negative certifications.

  • Waterless Formulations: Brands that prioritize solid bars or powders significantly reduce carbon emissions by eliminating the weight of water during transport.

  • Hyper-Local or Small-Batch: Shopping from local makers or small-batch brands like revivEARTH often ensures a smaller carbon footprint and more intentional, low-waste packaging.

10. Are organic shampoos really better?

Sometimes, but not automatically. Organic ingredients can be great, but what matters most is whether the shampoo is gentle, well-formulated, and works for your scalp and hair type. 'Organic' doesn’t always mean 'less irritating', especially if it’s packed with essential oils.

11. Is eco-friendly shampoo good for your hair?

Yes, it can be—provided the formula aligns with your specific hair and scalp needs. Many eco-friendly shampoos are actually superior for hair health because they replace harsh synthetic detergents with gentle, plant-based cleansers that preserve your hair's natural oils.

However, performance can vary between brands. The best eco-shampoo is one that effectively removes buildup while leaving your hair hydrated and your scalp balanced. To ensure the best results, look for a bar or liquid that is pH-balanced and specifically formulated for your hair texture (such as fine, curly, or color-treated).

12. Is there such a thing as 'green' shampoo?

Yes. Green shampoo generally refers to products specifically formulated to minimize environmental impact throughout their entire life cycle. This typically involves plastic-free packaging, biodegradable ingredients, and ethical sourcing practice.

Because green is a broad category rather than a regulated legal standard, the quality can vary. The most reliable way to identify a truly green product is to look past the marketing and verify the brand’s transparency regarding their supply chain and ingredient safety.

13. Are shampoo bars actually better for the environment?

In most cases, yes—primarily because they eliminate single-use plastic and are highly concentrated. Since liquid shampoos are mostly water, switching to a solid bar significantly reduces shipping weight and the carbon emissions associated with transport. The greatest environmental impact comes from choosing bars with home-compostable packaging and ethically sourced, biodegradable ingredients.

14. Which shampoo is 100% chemical-free?

Technically, no shampoo can be chemical-free because everything—including water and plants—is made of chemicals. When brands use this term, they usually mean the product is free from harsh synthetic chemicals. If your goal is a cleaner routine, look for formulas free from high-risk ingredients like SLS/SLES, parabens, phthalates, and synthetic fragrances.

15. What are some trusted brands of 'chemical-free' shampoo?

Since every ingredient is technically a chemical, 'trusted' brands are those that prioritize ingredient transparency and safe, plant-derived alternatives. When searching for a cleaner routine, look for brands that clearly disclose their full ingredient lists, offer fragrance-free options, and provide verified certifications like Leaping Bunny or EWG Verified.

16. What is the healthiest, most natural shampoo?

For most, the healthiest choice is a formula that prioritizes gentle cleansing and scalp balance without using harsh, stripping agents. Look for minimalist ingredient lists that focus on plant-derived nutrients and offer low-irritation or fragrance-free options. A high-quality shampoo bar, like those from revivEARTH, can be an ideal fit—especially when paired with a light, natural conditioner to keep your hair hydrated and resilient.

17. What is the best natural thing to wash your hair with?

A well-formulated shampoo bar or gentle liquid shampoo is usually the most reliable. Some people use alternatives like diluted castile soap or clay rinses, but those can be drying or tricky depending on water hardness and hair type.

18. Which is the best and safest shampoo?

The safest shampoo is one that does not irritate your scalp, rinses away cleanly, and works consistently for your hair type. If you have sensitive skin, it is always best to patch-test new products and consider fragrance-free options to avoid itchiness. RevivEARTH offers a variety of shampoo and conditioner bars tailored to your specific requirements.

19. Is it healthier to stop using shampoo?

Not necessarily. While some people do well washing their hair less frequently, most scalps still require occasional cleansing to remove oil, sweat, and buildup. A healthier approach is often switching to a gentler shampoo and adjusting your washing frequency to suit your specific hair type.

20. What is the healthiest way to shampoo your hair?

  • Focus shampoo on the scalp, rather than the ends.
  • Use lukewarm water to avoid drying out your hair.
  • Massage gently with your fingertips (do not scratch).
  • Rinse thoroughly to prevent product buildup.
  • Condition mainly on mid-lengths and ends to keep hair hydrated.

21. What is the best shampoo to keep hair healthy?

The best choice is a gentle cleanser that matches your hair type, paired with a consistent routine. For most, this means using a mild shampoo bar, applying conditioner regularly, and using an occasional clarifying wash if you frequently use styling products.

22. What are the advantages of using a shampoo bar?

  • Less plastic waste: Helps eliminate single-use plastic bottles from your routine.
  • Concentrated formula: Because they contain less water, a single bar often lasts much longer than a liquid bottle.
  • Travel-friendly: Their solid form means no liquid limits at airport security and no leaks in your bag.
  • Simple routine: They reduce bathroom clutter and simplify your hair care steps.

Many people also appreciate that bars encourage more mindful, minimal packaging choices for a lower environmental footprint.

23. How should a shampoo bar be stored?

To help your bar last as long as possible, keep it dry between uses:

  • Use a draining soap dish or rack so water can escape.
  • Avoid leaving it in pooled water, which can cause the bar to soften.
  • Allow it to air-dry fully between washes.

Proper storage prevents mushiness and ensures you get the most value out of every bar.

24. Is a shampoo bar good for wavy hair?

It can be! Wavy hair typically thrives with gentle cleansing and light conditioning. Look for bars that are moisturizing without being overly heavy. If your waves feel weighed down, choose a simpler formula and focus your conditioner mainly on the ends.

25. Is a shampoo bar good for curly hair?

Yes, especially if it is formulated for moisture and slip. Curly hair usually performs best with:

  • Mild cleansers that don't strip natural oils.
  • Richer conditioning afterward to maintain hydration.
  • Minimal harsh detergents and drying alcohols.

When using a bar, pairing it with a quality conditioner (bar or liquid) can help your curls feel softer and more defined.

26. How large are the shampoo bars?

The shampoo bars are 2.5 inches in diameter and 1 inch tall. Each weighs 1.9 ounces.

27. How do I use the conditioner bars?

After shampooing your hair, simply get the bar wet and rub along your hair on the outside and underside. Put the bar down and use your hands to work the conditioner through your hair.

 28. How large are the conditioner bars?

The conditioner bars are 2 inches in diameter and ¾ inches tall. Each weighs 1.1 ounces.

29. I have dry hair and/or dry scalp. Which shampoo and conditioner set would be best for me?

All of our shampoos and conditioners are great for all hair types. The Argan Oil shampoo and conditioner set is ideal for dry hair and dry scalps in particular.

30. I have dyed hair. Are your hair products color-safe?

All of our shampoos and conditioners are great for all hair types. They are SLS free, therefore they do not accelerate color-stripping.

31. Are the shampoo and conditioner bars natural?

The shampoo and conditioner bars achieve the industry guidelines for “natural” products, since they are 98% or more natural. The color is food grade, which means it is made by people who use scientific intervention and oversight to control the product, keeping it safe for human use. The fragrances are skin safe and cosmetic approved. Natural scents are essential oils and are limited in the fragrance they can evoke. Other fragrances are made using organic compounds to re-create the scent, making a safe duplication of nature. We like to be upfront with our customers about what our products contain. We have a full list of ingredients listed for each product to maintain full transparency. If you have a known allergy to fragrances or food grade color, be sure to read our individual ingredients lists to find which product is right for you. Your safety and satisfaction is our priority. Chances are, if you are using a product with a fruity scent from another company, it is unlikely, purely 100% natural. If a business is hiding its ingredients from you, most likely they do not want you to know.

32. Are your products cruelty free?

Yes! Our products are cruelty free. No animal testing or animal products are used in production.

33. Are your products vegan?

Yes!

34. How should I store my shampoo and conditioner bars in the shower?

It is best to store your bars in either a reusable tin or wooden soap dish. We aim to make both of these available soon on our website! Bonus points if you reuse a container you already have Tupperware, empty face cream or body scrub containers, be creative!

35. Where are your hair products made?

Our shampoo bars, conditioner bars, bar soaps, and bath bombs are all made in the USA!

STAINLESS STEEL STRAWS

36. Should I clean my stainless steel straw before the first use?

Yes, we recommend cleaning before the first use and between uses.

37. How do I clean my stainless steel straw?

Stainless steel straws are dishwasher safe, however to increase longevity and ensure that the inside gets efficiently cleaned, it is recommended to clean them using dish soap and the included cleaning brush.

38. What size is the stainless steel straw?

Each straw is 8 inches long. They are the size of a normal straw and will work well for liquids but are too narrow for smoothies or shakes.

TOOTHBRUSHES

39. What are the toothbrush handles made out of?

The handles are made out of 100% bamboo. Bamboo is an excellent choice because it is natural (obviously) and fast-growing. Some species of bamboo can grow 1 inch every 40 minutes!

40. What are the toothbrush bristles made out of?

The bristles are made out of nylon-6, which is BPA free. Nylon-6 is not biodegradable or compostable. We are currently in the process of searching for a product that has bristles made of Nylon-4. Nylon-4 has been shown to be biodegradable and compostable in certain conditions, however some studies vary. There is no perfect option because natural bristles are not hygienic, are too abrasive, and are commonly made from pig or badger hair. This is obviously not a vegan or cruelty free option. Our goal is for us and our customers to be the best they can be, and we believe some small compromises, like this, are worth it to move as close to our zero waste goal as possible.

41. How do I use a bamboo toothbrush?

You can use a bamboo toothbrush just like any other toothbrush. Use toothpaste, toothpaste tablets, charcoal powder, or whatever dental hygiene product you are using already. To reduce opportunity for microorganism growth, rinse food and toothpaste debris from the toothbrush for 30 seconds before storing. We recommend asking your dentist if a bamboo toothbrush would be recommended for your personal needs.

42. How do I store my bamboo toothbrush?

Avoid storing your toothbrush in a warm, damp case as this encourages growth of microorganisms. We recommend asking your dentist if a bamboo toothbrush would be recommended for your personal needs.

43. How long can I use the same brush before I replace it?

There is no hard and fast rule about how frequently a toothbrush should be replaced. It usually varies between 1-4 months. A good rule of thumb is to replace it when the bristles start to curve or bend. We recommend asking your dentist about their recommendations for you.

44. How can I dispose of my old toothbrush in the most eco-friendly way?

The bristles should be removed with pliers prior to composting. Be sure to wear protective eye wear and take proper precautions when working with pliers!

PACKAGING

45. Why didn’t my package come with a paper receipt?

When we say “zero waste,” we mean it! You will ALWAYS receive a receipt by email, so we believe the paper receipt is just extra waste. Immediately after opening their package, most people throw paper receipts directly into the recycling bin (or trash :( ). Multiply that by all of the people who use our shampoo. It all adds up! The less paper the better.

46. Why didn’t my package come with product instructions or labels?

When we say “zero waste,” we mean it! Our website has detailed instructions of use for each product on the product page and in the FAQs. Immediately after opening their package, most people throw the product description and instructions directly into the recycling bin (or trash :( ). Multiply that by all of the people who use our shampoo. It all adds up! The less paper the better.

47. How do you account for the carbon footprint created by shipping?

We are fully aware of the impact of shipping on our environment. To account for this, we plant one tree for EACH AND EVERY product sold! We are so proud to partner with One Tree Planted to help us accomplish this.
